Standard #12
Each student will have demonstrated competent skills in a variety of physical activities and sports; physical fitness; knowledge of factors important to participation in physical activity; and concepts related to health.



Advanced Physical Education

Description
Advanced Physical Education will encourage students to develop lifelong recreational skills. Students will demonstrate skills and knowledge in a variety of activities. They will also apply the necessary rules, strategies, and safety procedures for equipment used in all activities studied.


Time Allocation
Ninety minutes per day for one smear

Grades and Performance Levels
Grades will be based on teacher constructed tests, personal observation, performance tests, and standards based projects with rubrics. Performance level rating are based on standards assessments.

Skills

A. Demonstrated competency in individual/dual activities through the execution of defensive and offensive strategies

B. Described and demonstrated correct biomechanical and physiological principles related to correct running techniques

C. Described and demonstrated correct biomechanical and physiological principles related to muscular strength and endurance

D. Demonstrated proper footwork, body position and hand-eye coordination appropriate to the task

E. Demonstrated knowledge, care and proper use of equipment

F. Described and demonstrated correct biomechanical and physiological principles related to correct plyometric techniques

G. Used, knew, and played by the rules

H. Demonstrated proper serving techniques and racket strokes

I. Incorporated learned skills, rules and strategies to perform in a variety of physical activities

J. Recognized and demonstrated proper etiquette and sportsmanship for activities studied




Physical Fitness

A. Analyzed the importance of plyometrics as it relates to improved performance of individual and dual sports

B. Charted his/her progress in all areas of physical fitness

C. Assessed the strengths and weaknesses of his/her opponent and his/her partner and reacted appropriately to the observations

D. Developed his/her own leadership skills for both on the court or field and in preparation for the activity

E. Developed and evaluated effective injury prevention exercises for use before and after activities

F. Demonstrated the ability to assess his/her level of flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance

G. Designed a fitness program that met their individual needs

H. Designed a fitness program that led to or maintained an improved level of flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance
