PRINCIPAL
QUALIFICATIONS
- Colorado Principal’s License.
- A minimum of five year’s experience as a licensed teacher and/or school administrator.
- First Aid Certification obtained within 90 days following the first date on the job.
- Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
REPORTS TO Superintendent
PRIMARY FUNCTION Supervise the operation and management of the assigned school and associated property. Assume administrative responsibility and instructional leadership, under the supervision of the Superintendent, and in accordance with the policies of the Board of Education, for the planning, management, operation, and evaluation of the educational program of the assigned school. JOB-DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Promote educational excellence by setting high standards for achievement and behavior at the school. Educational excellence shall include maintaining a school status of being accredited. (See Policy 102 – Foundations and Policy 108 – Accreditation and Accountability.)
- Assure that facilities are safe and conducive to a positive learning and working environment. Maintain a School Safety Plan and an Emergency (Crisis) Plan in keeping with statutory, regulatory and policy requirements. (See Policy 106 – Safety and Policy 150 – Facilities).
- Assure the operation of a School Advisory Committee in keeping with statutory, regulatory and policy requirements. (See Policy 108, Article 4 – School Advisory Councils.)
- Prepare and recommend an annual budget for the operation of the school and comply with statutory, regulatory and policy requirements for fiscal management of school funds. Adhere to Policy requirements for purchasing supplies, materials or equipment at District expense. (See Fiscal Management Policies,
Policy Section 200.)
- Submit recommendations to the Superintendent regarding the appointment, assignment, promotion, transfer and dismissal of all personnel assigned to the school. (See Policy 104 – Principals and Policy 302 – Employment.)
- Evaluate all school staff members in keeping with policy and established District staff evaluation procedures. (See Policy 308 – Staff Supervision and Employment.)
- Admit students to the school in keeping with policy. (See Policy 401 – Admissions.)
- Serve as the school’s Attendance Officer or designate an assistant to serve as the Attendance Officer and implement procedures for the enforcement of student attendance in keeping with state law and policy. (See Policy 402.)
- Properly notify students and enforce the District’s Student Conduct Code and associated policies. Implement student discipline in a fair and consistent manner, and in keeping with District Policies. Communicate discipline information concerning any student enrolled in the school to any teacher who has direct contact with the student in the classroom and to any counselor who has direct contact with the student. The Principal may appoint his/her Assistant Principal to be the school’s Discipline Officer. (See Policy 104 – Principals and Policy 403 – Student Conduct Code.)
- Assure that no student shall be the recipient of discrimination or harassment. Receive reports of student discrimination and/or harassment and serve as the Officer investigating such reports. The Principal may appoint an Assistant Principal to be the Discrimination/Harassment Investigating Officer. (See Policy 404 – Student Discrimination/Harassment.)
- Maintain a School Profile that includes student and staff demographic data, discipline and safety data, and achievement data including CSAP information. The Profile shall allow for analysis of information over time. Profile data shall be analyzed by the Principal and used to complete required federal, state and district reports and to develop School Improvement Plans. (See Policy 108 – Accreditation and Accountability.)
- Maintain and implement a School Improvement Plan that has been adopted by the School Advisory Council. (See Policy 108- Accreditation and Accountability)
- Notify the Superintendent of the lack of resources for fulfilling educational program requirements or for implementing School Safety or Improvement Plans. (See Policy 104 – Principals.)
- Maintain an ongoing effort to promote positive relationships with staff, students, parents and the community. (See Policy 701 – Positive School-Community Relations and Policy 702 – Student-community Relations.)
- Prepare reports and fulfill specific tasks as requested by the Superintendent. (See Policy 104 – Principals.)
- Be familiar with and abide by Federal and Colorado laws, Board of Education policies, District Regulations, and school procedures that relate to employment with the District.

EVALUATION
Assistant Principals are evaluated annually by Principals. Evaluation is to be based upon performance expectations based upon assigned duties and from the applicable standards established for the evaluation of Principals:

- Fiscal Management
- Facility Management
- Public Relations
- Professional Growth/Development
Principals are evaluated annually by the Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Assistant Principals are contracted for one year – 220 work days.

TOBACCO-FREE, DRUG-FREE, AND ALCOHOL- FREE SCHOOLS
Smoking, chewing, or any other use of any tobacco products by staff, students and members of the public is banned on school property, including: playgrounds, athletic fields, recreation areas, parking areas, and buildings, and in school vehicles or at bus stops. Use is also banned at any school or School District sponsored activity or event. Tobacco includes; cigarettes, cigars, pipe tobacco, snuff, chewing tobacco, cloves and all other kinds and forms of tobacco prepared in such manner as to be suitable for chewing, smoking or both. Use means lighting, chewing, inhaling or smoking any tobacco product.
A staff member in violation of this policy shall be subject to disciplinary action and/or possible termination of employment. District Policies are displayed on this web site.
