TECHNICIAN SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Associate’s Degree in Computer Science or Technology-related discipline or a minimum of 2 year’s experience as a technology specialist or technician.
  2. Demonstrated effective staff and public relations skills.
  3. Demonstrated ability to identify, analyze, prioritize, and resolve problems effectively.
  4. Demonstrated ability to diagnose problems and repair computer hardware.
  5. Demonstrated proficiency in the use of computer operating systems and application software, and the demonstrated skills for diagnosing and resolving software issues/problems.
  6. Demonstrated working knowledge of telecommunications systems and programming of telephone systems.
  7. Physically able to lift 50 pounds and perform moderately strenuous tasks (e.g. carrying computer equipment up and down stairs) and to climb ladders to access equipment and wiring.
  8. Demonstrated ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment.

REPORTS TO  Technology Director

PRIMARY FUNCTION
Maintain efficiently operating components of phone, video and/or computer networks and system components as assigned by the Technology Director.

JOB-DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage telecommunication and computer network systems as assigned by the Technology Director.
  2. Diagnose problems and repair computer hardware as assigned by the Technology Director.
  3. Assist the Director with software selection and installation.
  4. Attend vendor seminars and training classes as assigned by the Director and regularly read technical publications and periodicals in order to stay abreast of technological developments.
  5. Be familiar with and abide by Federal and Colorado laws, Board of Education policies, District Regulations, and school procedures that relate to employment with the District.

  6. Perform additional/other technology services as assigned by the Technology Director.

EVALUATION
Technology Specialists are evaluated annually by the Technology Director. Evaluation is to be based upon fulfillment of duties and responsibilities listed in this job description as determined by observation, review of records and reports, and administrative judgment of the effectiveness and quality of technology services provided by the specialist.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Technology Specialist positions are classified at-will positions.
Work Year: August through July – 230 work days.
All employees are directly or indirectly supervised by the Superintendent
(Policy 103).

ADDITIONAL JOB CONSIDERATIONS & FACTORS
Necessary travel throughout the District requires the use of a private vehicle and Colorado Drivers License. Work outside of regularly scheduled hours may be required to fulfill job duties and responsibilities. Work may need to be performed in narrow, poorly lighted, confined spaces.
