Kathy Scott

Kathy Scott has been teaching art to students of all ages since 1980.   After a short stint as an assistant dean of students in Elgin Illinois she perused her dream of creating art with students of all ages.   She traveled Illinois teaching art after receiving her BA from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.   When the opportunity of working on her masters in art education at the University of Illinois presented itself she jumped at the opportunity to learn more to help students reach higher levels of skill in producing their art.   Mrs. Scott met her husband of 20 years in Normal Illinois and moved to Minnesota where she supervised student teachers for Augsburg College including teaching introductory classes to education majors.   Mrs. Scott’s adventures took her to Idaho where her daughter Laurel was born and she had her first experience teaching preschool art.   Mrs. Scott’s best adventure so far brought her to Colorado where she has been fortunate to teach art here at Platte Canyon High School for the last 8 years.   She states she has never found a more beautiful and loving community than she has here in Bailey.

Amanda Waterhouse grew up in a lot of different places, including Colorado (three times!).   She graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Utah, and earned a teaching certificate in English and Theatre as well as her Master's degree summa cum laude from Westminster College.   Before coming to Platte Canyon, she taught junior high school for 6.5 years and actually misses it at times.   She is passionate about traveling, culture, and the arts.   In 2006 she won a National Endowment for the Humanities grant to spend a month studying and performing with some of the world's leading Shakespearian scholars in Massachusetts; and her play, Making Waves, won the 2010 New American Playwrights Project at the Utah Shakespeare Festival.   When she's not teaching, coaching speech, or directing a play she's usually exploring foreign lands.
