Each student will have demonstrated an understanding of basic operations and concepts of technology systems; social, ethical, and human issues as related to technology; and the use of technology tools to increase productivity, communication, research and problem solving.



Primary Technology Program

Description
The curriculum has been aligned to provide the content necessary for students to achieve the grade level expectations and, upon completion of their program of studies, the District's content standard. Students should be able to meet the following expectations by the end of first grade.

Primary Technology Expectations


Information Literacy

A. Introduced to award winning books

B. Began to find things by identifying major areas of the Library Media Center

C. Selected books to read from the school library based upon interest

D. Utilized library media terminology: author, title, parts of book, illustrator, title pages, fiction, non-fiction

E. Listened to stories read by the teacher (or others) and talked about story elements

F. Recognized the difference between fiction and non-fiction

G. Used the five finger method to choose appropriate level books



Technology Literacy

A. Became acquainted with space bar, shift key, return key, arrow keys, and mouse
B. Used correct posture at the computer and understood that there is a correct finger and hand
to be used for each key

C. Used mouse to click arrows and navigation buttons, double click, single click, and drag and
drop

D. Located letter and number keys to type short responses

E. Typed full name and words

F. Used basic drawing tools to draw pictures

G. Demonstrated opening and closing programs

H. Utilized technology terminology: CD-Rom drive, application, window, and hard drive

Responsible Information/Technology Use

A. Demonstrated proper use of library materials

B. Practiced basic rules of Library Media Center such as checkout procedures and appropriate library behavior

C. Used appropriate procedures in the use and care of technologies such as no food and drink, proper use of keyboard, mouse, monitor, and CD-Roms

A. Used programs to emphasize problem solving strategies

B. Used programs designed to promote creative thinking

C. Listened to stories that relate to topics being taught in the classroom

D. Used word processing and/or drawing programs to reinforce units taught in classroom

E. Created documents using the proper capitalization and punctuation
