Section 700 Policy 702
Student Community Relations
ARTICLE 1 - CONTESTS FOR STUDENTS
- Public groups or organizations often sponsor educationally related contests for students. Requests for students to participate in such contests are to be submitted to the Principal who may approve or deny student participation. Contests must be approved before being advertised and prior to any student participation when such participation involves the use of school time. Such contests are not to be approved if they interfere with student attainment of adopted curricular expectations.
ARTICLE 2 - SOLICITING FUNDS FROM STUDENTS
- The Board of Education authorizes the conduct of a minimum number of fund raising or charity drives in the schools provided that they can be administered without undue interference with the conduct of the educational program and provided they have the Principal?s approval. Parents shall be notified of upcoming funding raising or charity drives and provided opportunity to notify the school if their child is not to participate.
- No group or individual may solicit funds from students while they are on school property or are participating in school activities except as permitted by Paragraph A of this Article.
- No solicitors, agents, company representatives or salesmen shall be permitted in school buildings or on school grounds for the purposes of contacting students unless authorized by the Principal.
ARTICLE 3 - STUDENT FUND-RAISING ACTIVITIES
- Students shall not solicit donations from the public unless the Principal has approved such solicitation. Solicitation of funds does not include fundraisers where students provide a service or product to be purchased.
- Students, with the Principal?s approval, may raise funds for specific school purposes by engaging in services for the public (e.g. car washes). Sponsors must be present and supervise scheduled activities or services. Funds received shall be deposited in the School Activity Account to be spent for the designated purpose. A record of the funds received and expended must be maintained with the school?s financial records.
