District funded transportation is provided as a privilege for students who:
- Live an unreasonable and unsafe walking distance from school
- Special education students whose Individual Educational Program (IEP) requires such service or parents are reimbursed at an amount determined by the District for transport of their special education child
- School sponsored educational and extra-curricular activities, as feasible
When District vehicles are not available, a staff member or parent may transport a student or group of students in his/her own car for school-related purposes if policy requirements are met.
All drivers must meet state licensing requirements. Drivers participate in training each year on regulations, safe transport of students, student behavior management, parent/community relationships, and drug and alcohol prohibitions and testing.
Each bus is inspected daily to assure safe operation.
Audio and/or video recordings of students on school buses may be used to encourage positive behavior, to discourage conduct code and bus rule violations, and to document discipline incidents when they occur. Cameras are placed on buses at the discretion of the Transportation Director.
Bus routes and schedules are determined by the Transportation Director. Currently we have 13 school buses running local pickup routes, one daily bus going to the Warren Tech School in Lakewood, one local special education bus route(equipped with wheelchair lift),one special education vehicle which travels to Denver every day and one special education small vehicle which does the daily local trips only. Buses and transportation department vehicles average 1500 miles a day in the pick up and delivery of school children.
